So many of us are carrying hurts. That pain from trauma and past experiences will shape who you are and who you need to be — but only if you don’t let it hold you back. However, it’s often easier to succumb to the pain and preserve yourself instead of healing and putting yourself out there. Unless you overcome your trauma, you can’t be who you’re meant to be.
In this episode of The Mentee Podcast, Michael Anthony, founder of Think Unbroken, shares his journey in overcoming his trauma and becoming successful. He discusses the powerful lessons he learned and how you can achieve the life you want.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
- Life is happening for you.
- Lead yourself before leading others.
- Don’t micromanage.
- Take action to fulfill your goals.
- Find out how you’ll attain the life you want.
[04:53] Having Reconciliation of Self
Life is happening for you. Recognize the power you hold to create the life you want to have. You must understand that your experiences shape you and make you more resilient. Choose to find the good in you and not to hold on to hurts anymore.
[12:55] Being a Good Leader
If you want to lead others, you have to lead yourself first. Even if the people you’re leading are not yet ready, they’re still paying attention to your actions. Set an example for them. But don’t try to lead people who don’t want to be led by you; instead, redirect them to someone else.
Know the price you’re willing to pay. Sometimes, leaders need to make sacrifices. Balance the idea of letting some things go and surrounding yourself with people who will support you.
[21:02] Letting Things Go
A leader’s job is to help people where they are struggling. Leaders must be mobile and agile to bounce around and manage things effectively. Make a decision, delegate tasks, and let your team find success and failure. Don’t micromanage.
[37:00] Taking Action
If you want something but take no action, you’re simply interested. You must be obsessed with your goals and dreams. Ideation isn’t enough; you must take action and accept change.
Sometimes, people suppress their identity due to fear of pain, suffering, and isolation. Choosing safety over identity can lead to an unfulfilling life. Determine your passion, purpose, boundaries, wants, and needs.
[45:51] Chasing Your Dream Life
What are you willing to do to have the life you want? No matter what, you should be okay with who you choose to be. Choose to make no excuses, just results.
